Morelia takes victory over Chivas and maintain home dominance.
Morelia and Chivas confronted each other this Friday at Estadio Jose Maria in Morelia Mexico. After obtaining a win against Atlas, las Chivas Rayadas faced a Morelia that was not easy to get past. A game filled with intensity and controversy, only one team was able to get ahead of the table and take the desired three points.
The home team Monarcas let the visiting team know why they were favorite. During the first minutes, this team maintained ball possession and had clear plays. Although Chivas made an effort to push for the goal, a questionable call opened up the scoreboard for Monarcas. A penalty at minute 36 was given to Morelia and scored by number 8, Osuna. Chivas pushed to get a goal but that intent was impossible. Monarcas left with the 1-0 advantage over Las Chivas Rayadas during half time.
El Rebaño Sagrado returned to the second half with the opportunity to get ahead of the home team. While it was obvious that Chivas put themselves ahead of the home team, a possibility to tie the game came for them. At minute 90+2 the players on behalf of Chivas protest for a handball in the penalty zone. The ref, however, does not concede which upsets and angers the entire squad and coach, Tomas Boy. Once again Chivas fails to obtain the necessary points to put themselves ahead in the playoff hunt. They fall to position 12 on the table while Monarcas obtains 5th place.
