Most Humiliating Goleadas in Liga MX

Liga MX has had its fair share of lopsided scores in its history. Today we will focus on this century’s most humiliating blowouts.

12. Pumas 7 – Chivas 1 Apertura 2002 

Sorry Chivahermanos, but this list starts with Hugo Sanchez’s men whopping on Daniel Guzman’s Rebano at Ciudad Universitaria in 2002. Pumas put an end to Oswaldo Sanchez 295 minute scoreless streak in epic fashion with goals from Mariano Trujillo (3), Alvaro Gonzalez, Jaime Lozano, Ignacio Gonzalez, and an own goal from Johnny Garcia. Omar Bravo scored Chivas’ lone goal and missed a penalty kick in the 84th minute to boot.

11. Tigres 7- Gallos 1 Apertura 2003

El Tuca Ferretti’s men were ruthless in their 2003 visit to La Corregidora needing only three minutes to open up the scoring. Tigres icon Walter Gaitan scored a hat-trick as did fellow Argentine Nestor Silvera, with Jose Olalde scoring as well. Queretaro’s lone goal came via Leandro Machado.

10. Tigres 7- Veracruz 1 Apertura 2004

  Los Felinos showed no respect to a Veracruz team missing  Cuauhtémoc Blanco when they hosted the then Superlider Tiburones in 2004. Carlos Morales (2), Jesus Olalde, Irenio Soares, Claudio Husain, and Pablo Quattrocchi (OG) scored for Tigres, while Isaac Terrazas scored Veracruz’ only goal via penalty kick.

9. Atlante 7- Monterrey 1 Apertura 2004

Early in El Piojo Herrera’s coaching career, The Estadio Azteca was not kind to him, and he suffered a 7-1 thumping at the hands of Atlante.  Sebastian Gonzalez “Chamagol” scored a hat-trick, while Carlos Ramirez added a brace, and Mario Hernandez and Luis Gabriel Rey also scored for Los Potros. Los Regios’ only goal came via Luis Perez.

8. Atlas 7- Indios 1 Bicentenario 2010

La Academia was ruthless when hosting the now extinct Indios in 2010. Los Zorros goals came from Miguel Zepeda (3), Edgar Pacheco, Gonzalo Sebastian Vargas, Dario Bottinelli, and Andres Chitiva. Jair Garcia Gamboa scores Indios only goal.

7. Santos 7- Morelia 1 Bicentenario 2010

Recently relocated Morelia was dismantled in their 2010 Liguilla clash with Los Guerreros. A hat-trick from Oribe Peralta, and goals from Fernando Arce, Darwin Quintero, Guti Estrada, and Vicente Matias Vuoso, sealed a 10-4 aggregate win for Santos. Luis Gabriel Rey scored for Morelia via a penalty kick.

6. Toluca 7- Atlante 1 Apertura 2013

Payback is a bit…, not nice and Atlante got a taste of its own medicine as Jose Cardozo’s Toluca scorched Los Potros with goals from Raul Nava (2), Paulo da Silva, Wilson Tiago, Izaac Brizuela, Pablo Velazquez (2). Ezequiel Miralles scored Atlante’s lone goal.

5. Toluca 7- Puebla 0 Verano 2000

Hat tricks from El Diablo Mayor, Jose Cardozo and El Tanque Morales, and a late goal from Victor Ruiz, Toluca eliminated Pueblo from the 2000 Liguilla.

4. Chivas 7- Atlante 0 Apertura 2004

In a battle of debuting coaches, El Maestro Galindo’s rebaño victimized José Guadalupe Cruz’ Potros. Goals From El Bofo Bautista (2), Gatillero Palencia, Venado Medina, Ramon Ramirez, Alejandro Vela, and a Gol Olímpico from Ramoncito Morales sealed deal for Chivas.

3.Toluca 7- Tigres 0 Apertura 2006

Another instance of payback being um not nice, Americo Gallego’s Diablos demolished Tigres in La Bombonera. Two early goals from Bruno Marioni and a red card for Tigres set the tone for the rest of the game. Marioni would end the game with a total of four goals, and additional goals from Vicente Sanchez, Carlos Ezquivel, and Carlos Morales added goals sank Tigres.

2. Pachuca 9- Veracruz 2 Clausura 2019

The most recent goleada occured in Clausura 19 when Los Tuzos walloped Veracruz. Leonardo Ulloa’s hattrick, along with braces from Franco Jara and Victor Guzman, and goals from Raul Lopez and Edwin Cardona sank Los Tiburones. Diego Chavez and Colin Kazim-Richards scored for Veracruz.

1.Pumas 8- Veracruz 0 Apertura 2007

El Tuca’s Pumas obliterated Mohamed’s Veracruz in their visit to CU to take the number one spot in Liga MX’s biggest blowout this century. Goals from Esteban Solari (3), Pablo Barrera (2), Scocco (2), Leandro Agusto sealed El Turco’s humiliation.
