Pachuca takes Puebla for a ride and take their first victory on the road
Puebla hosted a Pachuca that was urged for triumph, both teams came into this game with one point each and hoping to get their first win of the season and get away from the bottom of the standings. Pachuca was ranked at number 16th with a record of 0-1-3, while Puebla with 1 game less due to scheduling was situated at number 17th with 0-1-2.
Los Tuzos took the lead early, at minute 7, when Jonathan Copete sent a beautiful through ball that left Victor Guzman face to face with Puebla’s goalkeeper Nicolas Vikonis, he left-footed shot and the ball went in between the keeper’s feet.
10 minutes after scoring the goal Victor Guzman took down Kevin Alvarez, who sneaked his way all the way in the small box. The play was reviewed by VAR and a penalty was called. Daniel Arreola stepped up to the PK spot but failed to capitalize the opportunity that he had to even up the scoreboard.
At minute 29 the referee showed a red card to Jorge Hernandez from Pachuca, but after reviewing the play the referee changed his mind and just showed him a yellow card. This is one of the actions were VAR benefits the game because this would’ve altered the match.
Jorge Hernandez himself was the one that increased the scored in stoppage time. After a couple of attempt shots from his teammates, the ball bounced towards Hernandez who blasted the ball from outside the box and made it 2-0.
Everything was going wrong for El Chelis and his pupils who haven’t won a game at home in Liga MX since March 15, 2019, when they defeated Pumas 1-0. For the second half not much changed, Los Tuzos continued dominating the game and at minute 55 Romario Ibarra shot a missile from the top right of the big box, the ball went into the net.
Luis Chavez completed El Baile for Pachuca 4-0 when on an assist from Rubens Sambueza, left-footed shot a ball that went past the goalie who couldn’t do anything to stop it. Los Camoteros fans were not happy with the defeat and booed their team for the last half hour of the game.
