Panzas Verdes looks to extend win streak, play Necaxa in Round 13

With five games remaining in the season, the hottest team in the league looks to increases their winning streak to ten and tie Cruz Azul for most consecutive wins since the 71/72 season. Los Panzas Verdes have been the best team in the tournament after a rough 0-2-1 start to the season. La Fiera is the best offense in Liga MX scoring 28 goals and also the best defensive team conceding eight. Leon had to fight till the end to get their ninth straight victory last week after going down 0-2 versus Morelia in the first 11 minutes of the match.

The resiliency of the team showed that they are here to stay and contend for the ultimate prize. Los Verdiblancos will have their hands full when they host the third best offense of the league, in Necaxa. The team from Aguascalientes is fifth in the standings and is coming off a convincing 2-0 win over Veracruz. Los Rayos started the season unbeaten in their first five matches before losing three straight.

Since then, they are 3-1-0 and hoping to stop Leon’s winning streak at nine. Even after a disappointing performance and a 0-3 loss versus Las Aguilas in El Azteca, Los Felinos continue to stay close to the top of the standings. Only trailing leading Leon by three points, Tigres UANL is currently 3-1-1 in their last five league games and coming off a dominating 3-0 victory over Santos Laguna in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Los Auriazules will look to continue to ride the momentum as they get set to host Pumas UNAM. The Universitarios victory over Guadalajara caused the firing of skipper Jose Cardozo, meaning losing to a struggling team like UNAM was the nail in the coffin. In their last five league games, Los Universitarios are 1-1-3.

Although the season is over, fans were hoping to have something to cheer for in Copa MX before their 0-2 defeat against Juarez in the semi-finals. UNAM will look to find the silver lining in their season and ride the momentum of their own after defeating Guadalajara when they visit Tigres UANL. It took Los Rayados de Monterrey ten weeks before they saw their first loss in the Clausura 2019. For the better part of the season, they were the best team of the tournament with the best offense until recently. Currently, Monterrey is 1-3-1in their last five despite being the second-best offensive team of the season.

The team from Nuevo Leon is coming off a trilling 2-2 draw versus Cruz Azul. They will hope to get back the identity that made them successful as they get set to visit Los Diablos Rojos. Toluca has had struggles of their own this season. They find themselves 12th in the standings with only five points separating them from playoff contention. Unlike Monterrey, Los Diablos Rojos are 2-1-2 in their last five games and will hope to take advantage of Monterrey’s recent struggles and position themselves to make a run for the post-season.

Fourth place Club America find themselves as the team with the second best winning streak entering Round 13 of La Liga MX. After an up and down start to the season, the team of Mexico City is riding an impressive three-game winning streak in the tournament. They have shown flashes of what they are capable of, scoring at least three-goals in three of their seven victories and recently dominating second place Tigres UANL 3-0 in their return from international break. This past Tuesday las Aguilas trashed Tijuana 4-0 to advance to La Copa MX final, improving their win streak to five in all competitions.

America will visit Estadio Caliente this Saturday as it gets ready for the rematch versus ninth place Xolos. Even though they are currently out of playoff picture, they are tied with seventh place Cruz Azul with 19 points each. Club Tijuana is 3-0-2 in their last five league competitions and will hope to earn a critical three points at home and avenge their 0-4 loss in La Copa MX. Below is the entire round schedule.
