Philadelphia Union rout Rooney-less D.C United
The Philadelphia met D.C. United in league action today in a game that was reminiscent of their encounter a few weeks ago.
The action began early when Kacper Przybylko hammered in the first goal of the night at the fifth minute of action. Przybylko 11th goal of the season came from an interception in the midfield that led to Wagner finding a Przybylko near the first post for a close-range strike.
The Union would strike again just minutes later when the 18-year-old Brenden Aaronson found himself open in between the United backline. Aaronson received the pass with his back turned towards goal, turned quickly, and delivered a clinical composed shot to double the Union’s lead.
Philadelphia would make it a three-goal lead in the 36th minute when Ilsinho maneuvered his way around the United defense and put the ball in the back of the net with ease. Ilsinho’s goal came after a fantastic pass near the box from Kacper Przybylko who was heavily involved in the Union’s offense.
D.C. United would not go home scoreless. In the second half, Acosta dribbled his way near the Union’s six-yard box and scored his sixth goal of the season to keep his team in the game. Mexican international Marco Fabian would come on as a substitute in the 70th minute for Ilsinho but would have little impact on today’s match.
Philly will look to continue its great run next week when they host Atlanta United in a battle for the best team in the Eastern Conference. For their part, D.C. United will take on the Montreal Impact as they look to stay in the playoff picture.
