Preview: How ‘Tata’ expects to line up against Jamaica

Gerardo Martino and his men enter the first of the last six games of the World Cup Qualifiers pressured to start on the right foot, which means winning.

The Mexican team currently sits in the third position tied with Panama at 14 points and comes from two consecutive losses against Canada and USA. On the other hand, the Caribbean team sits sixth out of the eight-team group with seven points and is running with a four-match unbeaten streak.

Jamaica is currently going through a transition period in its technical management. This past December, they let go of the services of Theodore Whitmore and acquired Paul Hall to lead the Caribbean team.

Here we bring you a preview of how ‘Tata’ is expected to line up against Jamaica, based on the latest news before the match.

Unavailable El Tri Players

The Mexican National Team flew to Kingston Thursday without Raul Jimenez, recovering from a calf injury, and without Cesar Montes, who contracted COVID-19.

Hirving Lozano won’t see any action in this clash. After being carded with a yellow in the last qualifying window against Canada and El Salvador, he will be serving a one-match suspension.

Players Under Caution

Players that are available for this game but who have one yellow card are:

  • Nestor Araujo (Canada Nov. 2021)
  • Luis ‘Chaka’ Rodriguez (USA, Nov. 2021)
  • Luis Romo (USA, Nov. 2021)
  • Hector Moreno (El Salvador, Oct. 2021)
  • Jesus ‘Tecatito’ Corona (Canada, Oct 2021)

It is essential to mention that if any of the aforementioned players receive a second yellow, they will have to miss the next qualifying match, according to FIFA regulations.

El Tri’s Potential Starting XI

In a news conference Wednesday, the Argentinian head coach said that the team we will see on the pitch against Jamaica is “exactly the same as in other games.”

Considering the players unavailable at the moment, the slightly injured players, and based on how Tata’s lineup has been lately. We bring you the possible starting XI against the Reggae Boyz. Keep in mind that Jamaica is known as a very physical team, so there is the probability that Martino may not want to ‘risk’ all the European-based players.
