Preview: Mexico vs USA I FIFA World Cup Qualifier
Mexico and USA face off in the FIFA World Cup qualifier in Cincinnati, Ohio at the TQL Stadium and also will be facing each other in their third match of the year.
El Tri color looks to break the two-game skid they currently have against the USA and avoid the first-ever 3 game losing streak against the Americans during competition matches.
The USA comes off having beat Mexico in the previous two official matches the first in the summer for the Nations League Final with a late overtime penalty by Christian Pulisic to give them the 3-2 victory and winning the first-ever edition of the Concacaf Nations League.
The second match between these two CONCACAF rivals was during the Gold Cup Final and once again the Americans came out on top. Extra time was needed to decide the winner as Miles Robinson scored a header that gave the USA the Gold Cup victory and another win against their southern rival.
Now the USA looks to defeat Mexico in the World Cup Qualifier at home and extend their winning streak against El Tri to three games while also looking to match with Mexico atop the standings.
Previous WC Qualifier Matches
Mexico comes into this match as the leader of the pack with 14 points and having won their previous two qualifier matches a 3-0 victory over Honduras and a 2-0 victory against El Salvador.
Meanwhile, the USA comes in just three points shy of El Tri with 11 points and 2nd in the group. The Americans split their two most recent WC qualifiers having beat Costa Rica 2-1 and losing to a surprising Panama team 1-0.
In world cup qualifier matches El Tri and the USA have faced each other 30 times with Mexico having won 16, lost 7 and drawn 7 times.
