Puebla beats Pumas to keep Liguilla hopes alive

Puebla and Pumas were meeting for the second game of the weekend, and the match was of utter importance for both teams. Both teams still have a slim chance of going to the Liguilla, but they needed to win this game. Both sides have been struggling with scoring and have a new coach that they need to get used to, but this game was expected to be intense.

The game started dull with not many possibilities of scoring from either team; most of the match took place in the middle of the field. The goalies made a couple of outstanding saves, giving their teams a chance to win the game. It looked like UNAM would take the lead on the score, but unfortunately for them, the goal was negated because of a very questionable offside. The rest of the first half was slow in what appeared to be a dubious effort from both teams.

The second half started with excitement for the home team with a fantastic header from Lucas Cavallini that ended in the net. Once again the Mexico City team was down on the score disappointing many of their fans.

Los Camoteros kept their positive energy for a few more minutes, but their game went down when the felines picked up their game. Towards the end of the match, Pumas attacked non stop but without a clear opportunity. All the crosses went straight to Nicolas Vikonis’ hands or above the goal. The game ended with a dull 1-0 without much excitement and passion.

Pumas’ next match is against Juarez in an exciting semifinal of Copa MX. Meanwhile, Puebla made its way to the eight-place of the table. Los Camoteros have a bigger chance of going to the Liguilla while UNAM’s possibilities are almost none.
