Pumas Drop 2nd Straight Game in 1-0 defeat at Xolos.
After a terrible loss for Pumas against Tigres in CU, and a heartbreaking loss for Xolos against America in El Azteca, Pumas and Tijuana were in desperate need of three points in order to stay in the top eight of Liga MX. Unfortunately for UNAM, they couldn’t count on Jeison Ángulo who got a red card last weekend after receiving a double yellow for silly fouls.
The match started with high excitement for Xolos when Camilo Sanvezo scored an early goal after catching UNAM by surprise in a counterattack. The away team kept attacking in the first half, getting a few corners and some counterattacks, but for their misfortune they all ended up outside the net. It looked like Los Universitarios we’re going to tie the game, with Tijuana struggling to keep their lead, but they managed to get to half-time ahead.
Pumas fans had high hopes for the second half since they had a consistent attack in the first half, but they were quickly disappointed when the home team came out dominating. Xolos were close to scoring the second goal with Camilo Sanvezo and Ariel Nahuelpan’s persistent attacks. Alfredo Saldivar, however, made great saves and stopped the lead from growing for Tijuana. Pumas seemed lost without any type of structure, losing almost every ball they sent to the attack. The game ended with the home team attacking constantly and Pumas not even having an opportunity to tie the game.
Pumas has to work hard for the upcoming weekend, where they will receive Veracruz while Tijuana rests.
