2020 Liga MX Final intensifies as Leon and Pumas draw
The Guardianes 2020 final first leg gave everything that was expected. Passion, intensity, and overall good fought out 90 plus minutes of soccer. With surprises like a red card and a late goal, we had the works from this first leg matchup. Let’s break down tonight’s match.
Defensive First Half
The first half was how some would expect. Very defensive and both teams reading each other closely to see who could budge first and open up the board. Even with less percentage of the ball, Pumas managed to create more opportunities in the box in the first half. With seven shots and two on target, it was evident they wanted to score. Leon with more time with the ball during the first 45 they only had one shot on target but created five opportunities that came up short as well. With things loosening up towards the end we knew that the second half coming up would bring some more magic on the pitch. With two minutes of added time, the whistle blew for the half and both teams headed to the locker rooms to prep for the second half.
Second Half, both teams want the win
The second half started and just as expected we start seeing tactical sub-ins from both teams. Yellow cards start flying out as the game starts to intensify on the pitch. As you thought this game would land in zero’s, Pumas finally get on the board. The booked man Carlos Gonzales right dead in the center of the goal scores. With an assist from Carlos Gutierrez with a solid cross at the 72nd minute. To make things worse for Leon at 81st-minute Stiven Barreiro receives a second yellow and a red card for a hard foul leaving Leon with ten men.
You would imagine that would stop Los Panza’s Verdes dead in their tracks but no. With some other tactical movements at the 89th minute of the match Leon tie the match. Emanuel Gigliotti takes a right-footed shot with a real close range that was facilitated with a cross from Jose Ramirez. The score was now one-one. With a total of seven minutes added on the score remained a draw and the final whistle blew. Now Leon has the home-field advantage on Sunday, December 13th, as the second leg will take place.
