Querétaro Defeats Tijuana 3-2 and Stay Relevant in Copa MX

It was a jam-packed night of goals and close calls. Club Querétaro looked for their first points in Copa MX against Club Tijuana. The night did not disappoint, and Los Gallos Blancos ended the night with 3 points and hopes of advancing beyond the group stage.

Los Gallos proved to be the aggressors early on by landing the first goal of the night, thanks to Jordi Cortizo, in the 23rd minute. The goal was a result of quick and precise passing inside the box, from Omar Arellano and Marcel Ruiz, which set up Cortizo for a direct shot.

In the 32nd minute, Camilo Sanvezzo was awarded a penalty kick thanks to an aggressive tackle by Querétaro’s goalkeeper, Gil Alcalá. Leonel Miranda took the shot for Los Xolos and drove it in.

Next, Gallos regained the lead off a set play in the 53rd minute. George Corral took a shot just outside the large box, sneaking past the Xolo defensive wall.

Querétaro added to their score in the 62nd minute with a direct shot by Gerson Vázquez setting them up for the win and his first career home goal. Tijuana attempted to bring the game within reach by adding a second goal, courtesy of Camilo Sanvezzo, but it was not enough.

Los Gallos de Querétaro took home the victory and stayed alive in group 5. Meanwhile, Xolos de Tijuana will face off against Mineros de Zacatecas at their home field on September 4th.
