Queretaro flies to top spot sinks Bravos in Juarez

Queretaro closed out Week 5 of Liga MX by reaching the top of the table and continuing to sink FC Juarez. Los Gallos beat FC Juarez 2-0 at the Estadio Olimpico Benito Juarez to secure the top spot in the tournament.

The VAR made an early appearance in this game and negatively affected the border team. In the sixth minute, a VAR review reversed a yellow card, and Angelo Sagal was shown a straight red for a hard foul on Alonso Escoboza.

From that moment Queretaro dominated possession of the game and mercilessly attacked the borderland team who did everything they could to rescue at least a point at home.

Los Bravos’ luck finally ran out in the 83rd minute as Queretaro broke through. Enrique Triverio capitalized on a Jordi Cortizo shot that hit the crossbar and was able to beat Ivan Vazquez from close range.

Los Gallos Blancos were able to seal the game just three minutes later. The referee allowed them to play on after an apparent Juarez foul in the midfield, and the ball landed at the feet of Cortizo. He first timed a pass to a streaking Ayron Del Valle, who hit a well placed shot to the far post of Vazquez.

The win adds to Queretaro’s impressive undefeated start and allows them to momentarily hold the top spot in Liga MX over the also unbeaten Aguilas del America.

FC Juarez continues to struggle to adapt to the competitiveness of the top tier in Mexican soccer. Bravos are left with only one win and four losses and will need to make desperate changes if they wish to remain in Liga MX.

Los Gallos will look to continue their winning ways and hold on to the top spot when they host Leon next Saturday. Los Bravos hope to break out of their slump when they visit Puebla next Thursday night.
