Queretaro Snatches Victory from Xolos in Tijuana
Xolos and Queretaro went head-to-head in a match where both teams came motivated off their first week victories against Puebla and Toluca, respectively. Tijuana along with two of their players that formerly belonged to Queretaro, Angel Sepulveda and Camilo Sanvezzo, were looking to jump to the top of the table by beating a Gallos Blancos team whose priority is to climb up in the relegation table.
The match began with the home team creating goal opportunities, such as a left footed shot and a bicycle kick from striker Ariel Nahuelpan, as well as a long distant kick by Miler Bolanos. It wasn’t until the 37th minute that their efforts were rewarded when Washington Camacho made his second goal of the tournament in a crowded play that originated from a deflected cross. Tijuana defended effectively for the rest of the first half, going to the break ahead by one goal. The away team had created little opportunities which put them far away from a possibility of tying the game.
Queretaro started the second half with a different face and a different attitude. In the first ten minutes they seemed closer to scoring than what they did in the first half. In the 53rd minute, Ake Loba was tackled in a very immature way by Diego Braghieri inside the penalty box which ended up with a penalty kick for Gallos Blancos. Jordan Sierra stepped up to the plate and traded that penalty kick for a goal; the game was now tied 1-1. From this point on, the game stayed even with both teams attacking and shooting at goal. Both squads created great plays but were unable to finish them.
The game ended in a tie, which is now the fourth match of the weekend to do so. Queretaro will be hosting Cruz Azul next weekend while Tijuana will travel to Mexico City to visit America.
