Rayados dominates Pumas in Monterrey
After an embarrassing performance against Morelia, Pumas visited Monterrey who also lost last weekend against Santos Laguna. Both teams had the same amount of points needed a win to maintain themselves in the top eight of the league.
The game started positively for the home team, who created more apparent opportunities. Monterrey’s fans didn’t have to wait long before they celebrated getting on the scoreboard. In the 25th minute, Maximiliano Meza received a long ball, dribbled through Jaison Ángulo and scored the first goal of the night.
The rest of the half, the team from Mexico City, was close to equalizing the game but Marcelo Barovero appeared stable under his goal stopping all of Pumas’ shots. The half time ended with an even 50 percentage position.
At the beginning of the second half, the felines had plenty of opportunities to score, but luck wasn’t on their side. When the visiting team was at their best moment of the match, Rogelio Funes Morí gave Rayados a piece of mind with the second goal of the night at the 60th minute.
After the goal, Pumas grew desperate and showed no sign of organized soccer. The Rayados were closer to score the third goal than Pumas from scoring their first. The man of this match could without a doubt get awarded to Marcelo Barovero who stopped the felines attack in the first half.
UNAM is no longer in the top eight for the tournament while Monterrey climbed up to fifth. Pumas will receive Toluca on Sunday which gives them an excellent opportunity to get three points due to the tough season Los Diablos are having. Los Regios will visit Juárez who also has been suffering this tournament.
