Red Bulls spoil Zlatans debut in the Big Apple!

After being able to overcome a 1-0 deficit, the LA Galaxy was unable to do the same after they fell behind 3-2 to the Red Bulls in the second half and lost for the first time since March 9th to FC Dallas.

Zlatan keeps scoring

Despite losing in the Big Apple, Zlatan managed to score once again and now has nine goals for the season, two behind league-leader, Carlos Vela. The race for the MVP race continues to heat between these two Designated Players, and Ibrahimovic appears not to be holding anything back. The loss comes as a tough blow the Galaxians, as a victory would have leap-frogged them to the top of the Western Conference standings over their city rivals LAFC.

The local side took an early lead when Amro Tarek scored on a set play in the 15th minute to give the Red Bulls a little breathing room. The game continued going back-and-forth until Zlatan found Uriel Antuna in the 39th minute and the latter one scored the equalizer for the Angeleno side. Only four minutes later, Zlatan scored on a diving header to give his team a 2-1 lead. The play would be reviewed by the VAR, but the goal would stand and the teams went to the lockers with LA leading by the minimal margin.

Zlatan came up short in the second half. LA Galaxy loses for the first time since March 9th

Second half was not kind to L.A.

In the second half, NY started appeared to be determined to get things evened up. Their efforts paid off in minute 59 when Marc Rzatkowski found himself wide open inside the 18-yard box and scored to make it 2-2 in the scoreboard. In the 67th minute, the Red Bulls were able to take the lead when Derrick Etienne scored on a very similar play as the one that led to the second goal. The 3-2 lead gave the home squad some tranquility, but the Galaxy knew they had to create opportunities to beat a well planted New York defense.

Despite their offensive aggressiveness, the Galaxy was unable to remount the lead. Los Angeles hit the post on several occasions, but the Red Bulls stood their ground and the game finished with the local fans celebrating an important victory for their team.
