Santos and Correcaminos split points in CopaMX action
CopaMX action play began Estadio Torreon this week with a matchup that pitted the league leaders of LigaMX Santos Laguna against Ascenso MX ‘s Correcaminos.
Action from this Group 7 game began from in minute 7 with a missed attempt from Octavio Rivero after a long pass from Santos’ own half that was misjudged by Correcaminos’ keeper. Rivero couldn’t capitalize after the keeper error and kicked the ball just wide of the open goal.
The visiting team netted the first goal of the match after Tony Lopez made a run through the middle of the field that caused the Santos keeper to leave his post. Carlos Acevedo came close to the edge of the box in an attempt to stop the attack but Lopez kept his composure and lofted the ball over his head and into the goal.
Santos Laguna went into the half down 1 but quickly evened things up at the 56th minute. Bryan Garnica received a pass on the left side of the visiting team’s half, quickly sneaked by three Correcaminos defenders, and a place a perfect pass for Diego Valdés to drive it home.
Correcaminos had a late chance to end up with a win in added time when Johan Arango received a pass near the Santos 6-yard box. Arango, unfortunately, struck the ball into the stands and missed a chance to go home with the 3 points. Santos will now visit Chivas de Guadalajara in CopaMX action on August 7 in Estadio Akron. Correcaminos will also face Chivas next on September 7.
