Somber End To Mextranjeros Europa and Champions League Campaigns
The dream is over for the three remaining Mextranjeros in Europe. Wolves, Atletico Madrid, and Napoli were all eliminated from their competitions this week.
Raul Jimenez missed penalty combined with a late Lucas Ocampos goal lead to Wolves elimination in the Europa League. The game may mark the end of Jimenez’ Wolves’ career as interest has increased for the mextranjero from Manchester United and Juventus.
El Chucky came on in the 70th minute of Napoli’s 3-1 loss to Barcelona and was unable to make a difference as his team was eliminated 4-2 on aggregate. This may also be Lozano’s last appearance for Napoli, as it was said that Napoli has lowered their asking price for the Mextranjero indicating their willingness to cut their losses on Chucky.
Hector Herrera started for Atletico but only played 58 minutes before being substituted for eventual goal scorer Joao Felix. Felix tied the game via PK in the 70th minute, before a Tyler Adams deflected shot eliminated Atletico. HH has stated he will complete his contract with the Spanish side that runs until 2022, however, another early exit from the Champions League and 3rd place La Liga finish in which they fell 12 points behind Barcelona and 17 points behind champions Real Madrid may lead El Cholo to rethink his stance on the Mexican.
Aside from Jimenez, whose stock is trending upward, this marks a grim end to HH and Chucky’s European season. The question is now whether HH and Chucky should look for moves to different teams to ensure more playing time or stay and fight to regain their coach’s faith. In Lozano’s case, will the current pandemic and the financial repercussions its causing keep any team from launching a bid for his services. As for Jimenez, the only question is what the team will pull the trigger and sign him this transfer market.
Where do you think these Mextranjeros’ next move should be?
