Tata all smiles ahead of Argentina matchup
It was smiles for the Mexican National Team ahead of their matchup against Argentina at the Alamodome. Mexico’s players played some keep-away and performed stretches in front of the media Tuesday afternoon. The atmosphere was fun and loose, a contrast from last year’s matchups against La Albiceleste.
Superstars Kun Agüero and Lionel Messi will not be present for this matchup against Mexico, but the Argentinian side is one never to take lightly. Paulo Dybala and other young call ups will still present a significant test for Mexico, who is undefeated in 11 games under their Argentinian manager.
The last time these two teams faced each other, Argentina proved to be the superior side. This time around it might be tougher for Argentina to claim victory. Tata Martino’s sided are coming off a convincing 3-0 win against the USA. Their style of play has been compelling, but Martino still acknowledges that Argentina has been the better side in past meetings. The Argentinian manager mentioned in Tuesday’s press conference that he is pleased that Mexico will face a superior team. This matchup will be an excellent test to see how far Mexico has come, even if it is against a younger Argentian side.
Mexico’s starting lineup will likely see Guillermo Ochoa return on goal. Upfront, Chucky Lozano and Raul Jimenez will link up to form a formidable partnership. The backline will also see the return of Miguel Layun, who has returned following his cancer treatment.
Kick-off is set to 9:00 pm local time.
