The current state of disorder inside the FMF that costed Diego Cocca his job
The recently appointed commissioner of the Femexfut, Juan Carlos Rodriguez, announced earlier today that Diego Cocca will be relieved of his position as head coach of the national team.
This decision does not come entirely as a surprise, given the disastrous display put on by El Tri last week against the USMNT, during the semifinal of the Nations League. This, coupled with a worryingly low attendance for the match against panama during the third place game of the nations league, surely prompted the Femexfut executives to make a hasty move.
During the announcement, Rodriguez mentioned that during his short time at the FMF, he has encountered a lack of planning and leadership across the board inside the Femexfut. He also extended his criticism saying that the current state of “disorder in decision making, lack of processes, rigour and transparency in the appointment (of key positions)” also goes back to many years in the past.
Along with Diego Cocca, Rodriguez also announced the exit of Rodrigo Ares de Parga, who until then, was Director of National Teams inside the FMF. Ares de Parga joined the FMF earlier this January while Cocca was announced as head coach on February 10 of this year. In his short spell at the head of El Tri, Cocca coached seven games, winning three games, drawing three and losing one. He coached four official games, all of them in the Nations League, and three friendlies.
The person appointed to replace Cocca, as an interim coach, will be Jaime ‘Jimmy’ Lozano, who has an unremarkable trajectory in the local league, and previously coached the U23 team that got the bronze medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
