The MLS Is Back Tournament: LA Galaxy vs Houston Dynamo Preview
The LA Galaxy’s participation in the MLS Is Back Tournament comes to an end today against the Houston Dynamo. In this instance, neither has much to play for besides bragging rights since instead of moving on to the Knockout Stage, both will head home. LAFC and Portland Timbers will instead represent group F.
The LA Galaxy will want to win this one (or at least tie) so that they won’t go home empty-handed with zero points from this tournament. More importantly, however, the Angelino fan-base needs a symbolic win to continue having confidence in their head coach, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, something which has been fading this year. Chicharito’s poor showing thus far and his injury exit from the tournament have also played a significant role in the dissatisfaction of the Galaxy faithful. While an early exit from the competition is a disappointment for the fans, a win here could potentially hold them over until they see action once more. Hopefully, by then, the Galaxy can have a full, healthy squad that can take them back to their winning ways.
Before that, of course, is today’s game with Houston Dynamo. We can expect to see Pavon step up to push his team towards victory, as well as seeing more of Mexican-American youngster Julian Araujo. Galaxy and Mexico fans alike will mostly be interested; however, in seeing Efrain Alvarez has more playing time as the young star-in-the-making continues to prove himself and grow on the field.
You can catch today’s action at 5pm PDT on FS1, FOX Deportes and TUDN.
