Third Time’s a Charm For Tigres Who Pull Equalizer Against Leon

Two of Liga MX’s top-tier teams faced off in front of a loud Estadio Universitario. Both teams were coming off ties and were looking to add three points to their resume. Tigres have not found their mojo and needed their striker, André Gignac, to deliver. Leon is coming off several impressive wins thanks to their leading scorer, José Juan Macías, who missed the call up to the Mexican National team.

The first half added several moments of danger from both sides. In the 12th minute, the ‘Super Saiyan’ Luis Montes connected from the big box with a powerful strike. Tigres defenders gave him space, and Montes quickly made them regret it.

In the 45th minute, a penalty kick was awarded to Enner Valencia after a VAR review. Valencia was selected to take the penalty shot and was rejected by the goalie, Rodolfo Cota. The score remained 1-0 in favor of La Fiera at half time.

At the beginning of the second half, Tuca Ferretti subbed Valencia for Eduardo Vargas after a disappointing first half. For a moment, it looked like Tigres had another opportunity at another penalty; but it was quickly reversed by VAR in the 51st minute.

The third time proved to be the charm when Los Tigres were awarded yet another penalty. Tigres would miss again by way of Edu Vargas but this time around he was able to capitalize on the rebound in the 65th minute.

In the end, both teams ended with a disappointing tie and will look to add points against their next opponents. Tigres will face off against Tijuana on September 13th, while Leon will take on FC Juárez on September 14th.
