2020 was full of surprises and unexpected events that no one would ever imagine could happen. But for Leon, the surprises kept coming as they managed to fall to Tigres in a two-nil defeat tonight. Let’s break down tonight’s matchup.

The first half was interesting as both teams went in to get on the board early and show who’s the more dominant team. Tigres was clearly more in charge of the ball during the first 45. The current champion seemed to not be in their full senses and kept making mistakes and not being so accurate when having the ball. Tigres managed to get on the board late in the first half. Who else but their lead scorer of the last tournament Andre-Pierre Gignac at the 40th minute of the match, when he took a free kick shot that ended up in the bottom right corner of the box. With a minute of added time, the whistle was blown and Tigres head to the locker room with the lead.

The second half kicks off and tigres did not want to stop there they kept pushing and pushing to increase their lead. A total of 23 shots and 9 on target clearly showed the attack dominance that the CONCACAF Champions League winners had. With that at the 68th minute of the match, Los Felinos scored once again making the score two-zero. Carlos Gonzales with a left-footed shot from a close range after first missing a header that was blocked by the goalie.

The final whistle blew and Tigres stunned the current Champions at home. Their next matchup will be against Santos Laguna on January 17th and for Los Panza’s Verdes their next match will be against Pachuca.
