Global Crisis May Open Up Market For Young Mexican Players
The COVID Pandemic has created a fund shortage in world soccer, and in this transfer, window teams will be looking for budget signings to improve their squads. This unfortunate event may open the door for more young Mexican prospects to make the jump to Europe.
JJ Macias- 20 yrs old
The Chivas forward has been linked to Real Sociedad for the last couple of months as well as Dortmund. Playing time might be scarce with both of these teams which have many players in the striker position. With the new Director in Milan looking to go the Dortmund route, A.C. Milan might be the best team for JJ. Now Chucky’s nightmare in Napoli shouldn’t stop Macias from taking the chance on a rebuilt Milan.
Roberto Alvarado-21 yrs old
Alvarado is having a great season with Cruz Azul and the time to make the jump may be now. Rumors have linked him to Leicester, Ajax, and more feverishly to Crystal Palace. My pick for Alvarado would be Lyon. The French team that just eliminated Juventus from the Champions League will only have 3 wing players with the impending departure of Memphis Depay. Alvarado’s ability to play both wings and a central position will be a great replacement for the Dutch player.
Carlos Rodriguez- 23 yrs. old
Rodriguez has constantly been linked to Chivas, however, last year’s interest from Manchester United was reported. This year, so same links reemerged as the Red Devils need for a holding midfielder has increased. A place no one is talking about is recently promoted club, Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa’s squad is in need of players and what better way to make a splash than by taking your rival’s prospect. Rodriguez would greatly benefit from playing for a coach like El Loco and his system.
Cesar Montes- 23 yrs old
Montes has seen his value dip since Monterrey’s title run and subsequent struggles but is still a great prospect. The 23-year-old has the ability to play both left and right CB positions and can be a hot name for teams who will likely lose their CB’s to bigger teams. My pick for Montes is RB Leipzig. The German squad just surprised everyone by eliminating Atletico in the Champions League and will likely lose their top defender in the market. Montes can step in and fight for that position in a team that is known for using young talent in their recent history.
Marcel Ruiz-19 yrs old
Ruiz is a player we have talked about before and is an emerging prospect in Liga MX. His youth and potential may put him on the radar of many teams outside of Mexico very soon. The fact that he recently signed with Xolos may deter teams from looking to purchase the youngster, but for the right amount, Tijuana may sell. Arsenal are in dire need of creativity and the Mexican youth may help, but Arteta’s recent treatment of Arsenal’s current youth is a redlight. I think Ruiz will be a great fit at Schalke 04 or Bayer Leverkusen. Both German teams are going to get raided this offseason for their midfielders and Ruiz can fight for a position on either team.
