Tuzos and Tiburones Split Points in Lively 3-3 Draw
Pachuca and Veracruz played an entertaining match that ended in a 3-3 draw. Veracruz debuted this season after having a bye week to start Liga MX, while Pachuca was coming off a 3-1 loss to Clausura 2019 runner-up Leon.
The fireworks started early as Los Tuzos got on the board in the 9th minute on a great individual play by Franco Jara. Jara took a pass from Oscar Murillo, cut inside of his defender and placed a left-footed shot to the bottom right of the goal, past a diving Sebastian Jurado.
The equalizer came quickly for Los Tiburones, and just six minutes later Ivan Santillan found the net. Santillna found a Colin Kazim-Richards cross inside the box and put a left-footed shot past Rodrigo Rey for the tie in the 15th minute.
Enrique Meza’s men were able to once again go ahead on a great individual effort in the 37th minute via Kazim-Richards. Kazim-Richards fought off a Pachuca defender, guided a lobbed pass with his chest, spun and placed a right-footed shot to the top right corner.
In the 50th minute, Victor Guzman took a ball outside the box, cut outside his defender, and crossed a right-footed shot to the bottom left of the goal past a helpless Sebastian Jurado, to tie it up for Palermo’s team at two a piece.
The goals kept coming and in the 60th minute, Los Tuzos once again went ahead on the score 3-2. After a great team build-up, Jonathan Copete took a Guzman pass and placed a left-footed curler to the right of Jurado for the goal.
Los Tiburone’s were able to come from behind and tie the game up once again in the 68th minute. The Pachuca defense fell asleep and let Diego Chavez jump unmarked to meet a Sebastian Rodriguez corner and put it to the right of Rey.
Both teams continued to exchange close calls for the last 20 minutes of the match, but neither team was able to secure the game-winner as this back and forth game came to an end with each team earning their first point of the season.
The point is valuable for Veracruz who were tied at zero with Atletico San Luis at the bottom of the regulation table and a contrast to the last time they faced Los Tuzos and got walloped 9-2. Los Tiburones will now travel to El Estadio Victoria and face Necaxa Saturday, August 3rd. Pachuca will host Monarcas Morelia on Saturday as well.
