Vela saves the day for LAFC with a double
On their first visit to Yankee Stadium, LAFC came into this game with two home victories and as favorites to win, at least on paper, since NYCFC had two draws, one home and one away.
The New Yorkers took the lead at minute 39 when Alexandru Mitrita scored his first goal of this season.
On a nice run, Carlos Vela silenced Yankee Stadium two minutes before the end of the first half and equalized the game with a left footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner.
In the second half of the game the home team went ahead on the scoreboard thanks to Alexander Ring who scored the 2-1 on the 62nd minute.
At minute 74th Latif Blessing flew up on the air after getting kicked by Ben Sweat in the box. The referee called a penalty kick. El Capitan took the shot and scored the equalizer, under a wave of boos coming from the stands.
The game turned rough for the remaining of the match, and both teams had chances to score, but no neither managed to finish them.
About 100 LAFC fans made the trip to the Big Apple. They were as loud as they could be and never stopped chanting their songs throughout the game. Perhaps this encouraged the visitors to forget about the cold weather of the East Coast and bring home a point.
Once again Vela put his team on his shoulders and saved them from defeat. With him being on a great moment, makes us wonder why wasn’t he called by Mexico? Tata Martino, however, said midweek that he doesn’t need to see Vela, but that doesn’t mean El Tri won’t need him.
