Vela scores hat-trick and he LAFC make history
Los Angeles Football Club closed out the season with a win this Sunday at Banc of California stadium. After a well-deserved win, Los Angelinos will now look to make their mark in the Western Conference playoffs. This game against the Colorado Rapids was an important one for LAFC star, Carlos Vela. He earned man-of-the-match recognition as he went on to score a hat-trick to end the season with 35 goals, an MLS record.
Following a fantastic season with LAFC, the Mexican star needed to finish it on a good note. The first goal of the night for LAFC came at minute 28, on a pass made by Latif Blessing allowed Vela to make a turn and shoot from outside the box into the back of the net.
The Rapids knew they had to push extra hard to even up the score. The first 30 minutes of the game was tough for the visitors as they had minimal ball possession and couldn’t get past the midfield. Three minutes after scoring his first goal, Vela scored his second of the night. The LAFC star scored it spectacularly once again with a half-scissor kick.
The road team would get one back at minute 39 as Kei Kamara cut the deficit and send the game to the lockers 2-1 in favor of the home team.
In the second half, once again, Vela came through. In minute 50, the Mexican would go on to score his final goal of the game to cap a season to remember.
An unfortunate night for the visiting team as they are out for playoffs. On the flipside, LAFC and Vela are all smiles as he broke the record of most goals in a single MLS season. LAFC gets rewarded for coming out on top of the Western Conference and will have to wait to find out who their next rival will be; Minnesota United or their cross-town rivals, LA Galaxy.
