Your Weekend Watchlist by El Tri Online!
As another weekend full of fútbol action kicks off in Liga MX and around the world, the editors at ETO know you’re fines de semana can get busy, so we’ve narrowed down which games to have on your radar and when and how to watch them. Here are our picks for our ETO Weekend Watchlist:
SATURDAY, APRIL 3
Liga MX
- Atlas vs Club Tijuana, 4pmPST on TUDN : One of the few games this weekend where we don’t have such a huge difference in points between teams. Speaking of points, if Atlas wants to be in the top 4, they’ll need a win here coupled with a Monterrey and Toluca loss. Good luck.
Mextranjeros
- Napoli vs Crotone, 6amPST ESPN+ : Chucky Lozano and Napoli are currently in Europa League qualifying 5th place, but if they want to make Champions League instead, they’ll need to accumulate wins. They’re only two points behind 3rd and 4th place (Juventus and Atalanta, respectively) so a win against league worst Crotone could catapult them into the top 4.
- PSG vs Lille, 8amPST BeinSports: Eugenio Pizzuto has yet to debut for his club but if you want to start getting familiar with Lille, you’ll probably want this to be your introduction. Up until their previous game, Lille had been league leaders in France, but a loss against Nimes allowed PSG to tie them up in points. The winner of tomorrow’s contest will take 1st place and with only 7 games left in the season after that, will probably be the favorite to win the league.
Rest of the World
- Bayern vs RB Leipzig, 9:30amPST ESPN+ : First place Bayern Munich (of course) faces off against second place RB Leipzig. It’s only a four point difference but this is Bayern, so if RB allows them to get 7 points of separation they can pretty much kiss the season goodbye.
- Leicester City vs Manchester City, 9:30amPST NBCSN: First place against third place, with 15 points in between. That alone gives you an idea of how dominant Man City have been and while there is no doubt they are winning the title this year, this game should be a fun one for football lovers. Leicester will want to solidify their Champions League standing and besides, who wouldn’t want to take a swipe at Man City?
- Arsenal vs Liverpool, 12pmPST NBCSN: While both teams have been vastly underwhelming this season, anytime any of the Big Four face off it’s usually a solid spectacle. For Liverpool in particular, their season isn’t entirely a wash just yet as they can still qualify for at least Europa League next season and, technically speaking, they can even make it to Champions League with a good helping of luck. But first, they’ll need to get through an Arsenal that, honestly, has nothing left to lose.
SUNDAY, APRIL 4
Liga MX
- Leon vs Toluca, 7pmPST on TUDN: Leon is on shaky ground in their 10th place spot and Toluca is just outside the top 4. Expect both teams to give it their all as they try and take that next step up in the league before the regular season ends in 3 weeks.
Mextranjeros
- PSV vs Heracles, 5:30amPST ESPN+: Erick Gutierrez and company will face off against a relatively easy rival in Heracles. If they want to catch up to 1st place Ajax, they’ll need a win here.
- Heerenveen vs Ajax, 7:45amPST ESPN+: Ajax are currently league leaders by a full 11 points. Heerenveen should be an easy team for Edson Alvarez and his friends to handle.
- Sevilla vs Atletico Madrid, 12pmPST BeinñSports: Hector Herrera and Atletico are a mere 4 points ahead of Barca. If they want to win the league, they’ll need to win out their remaining 7 games, starting with Sevilla.
