Chivas defeats San Luis 3-0 and gets away from last place in relegation ranks
Chivas continues with their good streak and this time the victory came over San Luis at Akron Stadium. This was Chivas second win in a row at home this season, something that has become unusual for Los Rojiblancos.
Los Tapatios came into this game with a boost of confidence after defeating Santos Laguna en La Copa Mx after an amazing late come back with their two goals courtesy of Alexis Vega. As a result many people were debating whether Vega should be the starter after that doblete, but Tomas Boy didn’t think so despite praising him during the week, including a confession from Tomas, claiming that Benfica’s Manager was asking about Vega during their friendly match in the International Champions Cup.
The first goal of the night came thanks to Javier Eduardo Lopez, at minute 14, on a break through on top of the 18 yard mark. “La Chofis” with a left footed shot put the ball on the bottom right corner of Carlos Rodriguez’s goal, who stretched at his maximum but couldn’t stop the ball from going in.
At minute 53, Toño Rodriguez had a great save after missile shot from San Luis’ Joaquin Laso following a corner kick.
At minute 56, Oribe Peralta made his first goal for Chivas but it was invalidated due to an offside. This was unfortunate for Oribe as this would have relieved pressure off his shoulders, since he hasn’t scored in a long time.
At the 62nd minute the referee called a penalty kick in favor of Guadalajara after a controversial VAR review. On a corner kick, “Pollo” Briseño was held and kicked in the face before going to the ground. Alan Pulido, with skip and all, kicked a solid shot and increased the score to 2-0.
Alexis Vega came in at minute 70, he did a couple of good plays and at minute 84 he drew a foul in the box that gave Chivas a second penalty kick. Oswaldo Alaniz took the ball this time and scored the 3rd one for Los Rojiblancos.
Alan Pulido had the fourth one at his mercy just a minute after but couldn’t push it in.
Alan Cervantez had the last chance to increase the score at the last minute of the game. After a counter attack that had him make a great play in the big box leaving his defender behind, followed by an outside cut that left him with an open shot opportunity but his shot was blocked by the goalkeeper.
This was another great victory for Chivas that closes their week with 2 victories, and climbs up to 7th place in the standings by the end of this game. Next week they will face Leon in Guanajuato and San Luis will host Tigres in Liga Mx week 5
