Chivas v.s. America lives up to the hype
JJ Macias scored in the first 19 seconds of the game with a powerful shot inside the 18-yard box that beat Paco Memo Ochoa to give Guadalajara the lead.
Alexis Vega scored on a beautiful give-and-go with Macias to give Chivas a comfortable 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute.
In the 35th minute, Las Águilas responded with a header by Federico Viñas from a cross that Giovani dos Santos was barely able to send off.
The teams went to the lockers with Chivas leading 2-1, but Las Águilas came roaring out of there and begin an offensive onslaught. They controlled the ball for the 15 minutes of the second half, and Sebastian Cordova would finally get the equalizer on a screamer from outside the box.
Chivas was able to regain composure and control of the ball. After ten minutes of back-and-forth, Guadalajara broke the tie on a goal that El Chelo Ángel Zaldívar managed to score following a Memo Ochoa save.
Guadalajara, without Luis Fernando Tena on the bench because of COVID-19, would score another goal following a nice shot from Isaac Brizuela that made things 4-2 in favor of the Goats!
Andres Ibargüen would make it 3-4 in the 87th minute on a nice shot from outside the box that beat Antonio Rodriguez and made the closing part of the game a nail-biter.
Las Aguilas did have one more opportunity to tie the score late in the game, but Chivas defenders threw their bodies to get in the way of every shot America would send. El Rebano went on to defeat Club America for the first time since February 2017. Chivas will play Cruz Azul this Sunday in the Copa por México Final.
