Mexico’s National Team roster announced for November friendlies

Today, the Mexican Soccer Federation announced the Mexican roster for their upcoming November friendlies against South Korea (FIFA Rank: 38 and Japan (FIFA Rank: 27). 

The Mexican National team is coming off impressive outings in October against the Netherlands, where they won 1-0 and tied 2 apiece against the reigning African champions Argelia in a rugged contest.

Goalkeepers (3) :

Guillermo Ochoa (Club America), Alfredo Talavera (Pumas UNAM), Hugo Gonzalez (Monterrey)

Defenders (10) :

Jorge Sanchez (Club America), Cesar Montes (Monterrey), Jesus Gallardo (Monterrey), Luis Rodriguez (Tigres UANL), Carlos Salcedo (Tigres UANL), Edson Alvarez (AFC Ajax), Nestor Araujo (Celta de Vigo), Hector Moreno (Al-Gharafa), Luis Romo (Cruz Azul), Gilberto Sepulveda (Club Guadalajara)

Midfielders (9) :

Sebastian Cordova (Club America), Carlos Rodriguez(Monterrey), Erick Aguirre (Club Pachuca), Hector Herrera (Atletico Madrid), Jonathan dos Santos (LA Galaxy), Diego Lainez (Real Betis), Orbelin Pineda (Cruz Azul), Rodolfo Pizarro (Inter Miami), Uriel Antuna (Club Guadalajara). 

Forwards (4) :

Henry Martin (Club America), Jesus Corona (Porto), Raul Jimenez (Wolverhampton), Alan Pulido (Sporting Kansas City), Hirving Lozano (Napoli). 

Some notable returns to the National Team are Hirving “Chucky” Lozano and Guillermo Ochoa. Lozano is back on the squad after missing October’s friendlies due to a mandatory quarantine after several Napoli players tested positive for Covid. Guillermo Ochoa was declared injured before El Clasico Joven against Cruz Azul and subsequently missed Europe’s trip.

Note that both Jonathan dos Santos and Alan Pulido have suffered injuries with their respective clubs and may miss the trip if the injuries are severe enough.

Mexico will play against South Korea on Saturday, November 14, in Wiener Neustadt, Austria and then travel to Graz to face off against Japan on November 17.
