Pumas earns late draw against Guadalajara
It’s week 16 of the Guardianes 2020, and with the season almost coming to a close, a win for Chivas would have been a tremendous motivator for the team. Pumas had a different idea in mind, as they managed to steal a draw and split the points tonight. The 2-2- score kept Los Felinos in third place of the table and allowed them to walk away with their heads held high. The team from Guadalajara is now struggling to make it to the wild card.
It was intense first 45 minutes
Chivas opened the score early as Uriel Antuna scored in the 6th minute of the match as his right-foot shot from the box’s left side on a prolific pass from Isaác Brizuela went through the bottom left corner. The satisfaction of being up by one did not last long as Pumas scored in the 18th minute with a corner kick. The goal was by Nicolas Freire, whose beautiful header went in the bottom left corner of the goal.
After some back and forth action and a couple of yellow cards for the home team, the third goal came in at the 38th minute. Chivas go up 2 goals to 1 with a header to the bottom right corner by Jesús Molina. There were 5 yellow cards given in the first half before the ref blew the whistle and the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Chivas misses second-half opportunities
Chivas started the second half with an all out assault that showed them miss two clear opportunities that could have given the victory. Still, the latter half became more defensive as both teams stepped back from getting into their opponents’ boxes and creating chances. There were several substitutions for both squads in the second half, and one of them became key for Los Pumas de la UNAM as it helped create the opportunity that crushed the dreams of every Rebaño fan. In the 79th minute of the match, a well-placed cross from Alan Mozo to Carlos Gonzalez allowed him to head the ball into the bottom left corner. In the 87th minute, Alan Mozo was given a red card for a second yellow. The referee issued 5 additional minutes before blowing the final whistle, and the match came to a close.
