Pumas get their first Copa MX win
Coming from a terrible loss against Tijuana in Liga MX, Pumas received Potros in the Copa MX who tied against Venados in Ascenso MX. Both squads were forced to show their potential and attempt to improve their soccer as well as the results.
The first half was one-sided and that’s because UNAM attacked Potros’ goal nonstop for 45 minutes. One of the closest opportunities for the home team was a corner kick in the 36th minute, Felipe Mora appeared alone by the penalty mark and headered the ball. To the Mexico City’s team misfortune the ball went right toward Alejandro Vences’ hands.
UAEM has only had a few opportunities which none were clear as the ones the Pumas had. The half ended with a lot of excitement and action but with 0-0, as fans were expecting more from both squads.
The second half was much like the first one with the home team attacking fiercely. Pumas’ efforts were rewarded when they got an early goal in the 46th minute through a glamorous free-kick by Alan Mendoza.
The game remained in UNAM’s favor and was able to score a second goal, however, an offside was called. Unfortunately, Potros didn’t have any clear chances for the rest of the game, ending with a 1-0 loss to Pumas.
Potros will play against San Luis next week for the 4th week of Copa MX while Pumas will rest.
